New Stitching Buddy!

OK so a few things have happened as of late. The most recent and certainly most exciting is that one of my close friends has allowed me to teach her embroidery. It turns out she loves it and she is a natural. Check it out, this is her first couple hours of work ever.

Well remember that skirt gone wrong? I took some pictures to show how crazy full it is.

That's my little guy modeling it for me. Isn't he the cutest?

Now down to business. My first UFO isn't technically a UFO. I started a band sampler after Sharon B's post about hers. I just got so inspired but then it fizzled out after I realized I didn't know where to start. The first circle is what I started a couple of months ago. That's where I got the idea to make my sampler in circles. Each circle will feature a diferent stitch or compilation of stitches.

In this case I will consider finishing one circle finishing this UFO temporarily.

I love this flower. It is called Kiko's Flower Stitch. I found it on Sharon B's blog Pin Tangle. It was under her Take A Stitch Tuesday category. Next UFO will be a crazy quilt block. Until next time, stitch and be merry!

Quilted Easter Skirt

Good Day everyone! I have just about finished my roomate's pants. I just have to stitch the buttonhole today. Yay! I will take pictures tonight so you all can see the finished product. In celebration, I have decided to make myself a new skirt for Easter. I got the idea for it while taking a shower a few weeks ago. Doesn't inspiration hit in the weirdest places at the strangest times? Anyway, I have a fairly new pair of jeans that ripped in the crotch. I didn't want to just throw them away. I knew I wanted to make a skirt I just didn't know what to do yet. Then I got the idea to mix jean squares and light spring colored floral squares to make a jean skirt with a quilted effect. Last night I started cutting out everything.

As you can see I ended up cutting the jeans really short. I am using the whole top piece as is. I want the waistband with zipper and button. And I like the idea of keeping the pockets.

I cut right through the pockets in the back. I can't decide if I should just remove them or leave them. Any suggestions?

After I cut the top piece off I cut the rest of the jeans into 4" x 4" squares. If you notice, I made sure to include jean seams and pockets in some of the squares. I thought that would be interesting.

Here are some of my precut floral squares. After taking these pictures I went back and looked for more green and blue squares to go with the purple, pink, and yellow you see here. Also I cut a bunch of blank white squares to behind the floral squares. The floral squares are significantly thinner and lighter than the jean squares so the white squares should make the floral squares more sturdy and durable.

I want the skirt to flare out. To achieve this effect I have decided to sew the squares into seperate rows first. Each row will be longer than the last. I worked it out that 5 rows should give me about a knee length skirt. The 1st row will have about 12 squares, the second 16, the third 20, the fourth 24 and the last 28. I added 4 squares every row. However I fear it won't flare as much as I want so these numbers are pending. Hopefully I will have an update tomorrow with some stitching done.

Also, Nicki's Laces came in and I wanted to post a picture. They are simply beautiful.

Well, That's all I've got for today. Stitch and be happy!
