Good morning everyone! It has been a gorgeous week here in MA, but of course now that it's the weekend, it is miserably rainy. The only good thing about that is, now maybe I will have some time to stitch. After a recent promotion at work, I haven't had much time for anything. Before the fun can begin, I will have to spend most of the day today doing some much needed spring cleaing and reorganizing. I haven't been completely negligent though. I have been trying to find any spare moment to work on some of my WIPs in the backround.
Below are some pictures of the pattern embroidery I was working on. I wanted to pick an area to really show the gradiant of color of the threads I choose. I decided these flowers were perfect. I just love how the leaves are coming out!
Moving in a bit closer, you can really start to see the stitches themselves. I actually used backstitch to fill in the stems and leaves. I am trying to decide which color to use to outline the leaves. I am toying around with the idea of using the darkest green. I also can't decide if I should outline in backstitch or a fine chain stitch. I will probably audition these ideas after I finish the flowers and the bigger leaf to the left.
Here is a close-up of the first flower. I have used satin stitch for the petals. The outline is backstitch. I love the lattice effect in the center of the petals. I discovered this effect by criss-crossing two lines of buttonhole stitch, using the petal outline as my guide. The center of the flower will be stitched in two shades of pink in french knots. However, first I have to brush up on my french knots. They keep coming out like mini-bullions. So I guess that means I will be heading over to Sharon B's Stitch Library for a quick lesson.
To get an idea of the bigger picture, here is a bigger picture, lol! I guess this will be a WIP for some time to come.
So I made a resolution that I wasn't going to start anything new until I finished up some WIPs. I kinda broke it. For over a year now, I've had a small bag of baby cloths and blankets, sitting in my stash waiting to be crazy quilted. The idea was to make 4- 5 blocks every year with my son's things. Well finally I broke down and pieced a couple blocks together. My husband keeps teasing me. "You call yourself a crazy quilter and yet I never see you working on blocks." He's right, I like blocks because they can have a quicker turn around than some of the projects I'm working on now. So for now I have two blocks to work on in between other stuff. I am going to try and not piece more until I have finished the first two. I will try and take some pictures today if the weather clears up, but at the moment it's a bit too gloomy. Until next time, happy stitching!
